Biden lifts freeze on green cards

According to CCTV News client news, US President Joe Biden lifted the "green card" freeze order issued by former President Donald Trump in 2020 on February 24 local time.

A "green card" is a permanent residence permit. In April 2020, the Trump administration suspended the issuance of green cards on the grounds of protecting local jobs during the outbreak, barring applicants outside the United States from entering the country. In late December 2020, outgoing President Trump extended the freeze until the end of March.

Biden said in a statement Thursday that the freeze not only prevents U.S. persons and those who have received green cards from reuniting with their families, but also "hurts American industries that use talented people from around the world."

Since taking office in January, Mr Biden has rolled back many of Mr Trump's immigration policies. Biden's immigration plan includes ending construction of the U.S. -Mexico border wall, ending forced family separation for immigrants and lifting travel restrictions for people from some Islamic countries.
